Sri Yathiraja Jeeyar Swami has been a great connoisseur of any art form especially Carnatic Classical music since last 50 years. During poorvashrama days, he used to take legendary musicians to Melukote for Pallavothsava even before he started promoting classical music at Adarsha. He was instrumental for success of Krishna Kalakshetra of ISKCON which gave a platform for many noted artists and budding artists too. Encouraging senior artists to perform along with budding artists is Swami’s unique way of grooming young artists to become professional artists.
Sri Ramanuja Kalakshetra
Sri Mutt’s Cultural wing – Sri Ramanuja Kalakshetra was launched soon after Swami took over reins of Sri Mutt. The number of concerts conducted since then has broken all records of any Sangeetha Sabhas across the country. Starting from January 1st (Swagatham Krishna), Sri Ramanuja Kalakshetra conducts several programs throughout the year.
Sri Yathiraja Jeeyar Swami has created cultural revolution even in his poorvashrama days. A year before he ascended the divine Peetam at Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt as 41st Pontiff in 2014, he started this innovative musical initiative called Marghazhi Sangeethothsava in 2013, first ever in Karnataka. Since then, it has been happening for the last 9 years now. Just a week after his Pattabhishekam, he organized the Second Marghazhi Sangeethothsava in December 2014. It has always been a Five-day Music Festival, just before the marghazhi month begins, not to clash with the traditional Thiruppavai Upanyasam. The stage has been offered to literally every talented musician irrespective of their seniority. Traditionally three vocal and two instrumental concerts are held to provide equal opportunity to instrumental artists too.
Few years back, Sri Ramanuja Kalakshetra was instituted as a Cultural wing of Sri Mutt to shoulder the cultural events. We just concluded our 9th Marghazhi Sangeethothsava in a very grand way to the satisfaction of Sri Sri Jeeyar Swami and the highly knowledgeable audience. Shishyas of Sri Mutt who are strong connoisseurs of Carnatic Classical music have always come forward to sponsor the events and have contributed to the success of the Marghazhi Sangeethothsava.
Kuteera Sangeetha, Swathi Nakshatram Dolothsava Sangeetha Seva every month to Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, Special concert on Sri Narasimha Jayanthi, Krishna Janmashtami special concert and the unique Annual Marghazhi Sangeethothsava during December just before Dhanurmasam are major cultural events every year.
Special concerts are conducted during Sri Rama Navami and Navarathri Festivals. Several music organisations have taken shelter of Sri Ramanuja Kalakshetra to conduct their own music festivals including SVBC.
Sri Ramanuja Kalakshetra has honoured many eminent musicians and connoisseurs like Sangeetha Kalarathna Vid.M.S.Sheela, Sri G V Krishnaprasad of Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira with the title “Sri Ramanuja Kala Shree”.
